Dr Ricky Tang

Dr Ricky Tang has over 30 years of experience in diverse roles as high school teacher, lecturer, general manager, expatriate (to China), university administrator, career counsellor, and in recent years, career educator.

 

Presently Dr Tang is a Senior Lecturer with Republic Polytechnic (RP) teaching the Diploma in Human Resource Management with Psychology programme. He also holds leadership position as the Programme Head of the Specialist Diploma in Career Counselling programme.  He teaches the capstone modules. Prior to RP, Dr Tang was with Singapore Management University (SMU) as the Senior Associate Director/Career Services for about nine years, and in the private sector as general manager and director for over 14 years.

 

He possesses a doctorate degree from the University of Newcastle where he completed his thesis on cross-cultural and expatriate management. Dr Tang also possesses a Phoenix MBA, a Buffalo EdM in School Counselling, and a Nanyang Specialist Diploma in Counselling. He received his undergraduate degrees and teacher training in Hong Kong and Australia. Other qualifications include Graduate Diplomas in Educational Administration, Curriculum Development, and Distance Education. He is ACTA-certified and has a Diploma in Training Management.

 

Dr Tang is registered with Singapore Association for Counselling (SAC) as a Clinical Member.  Internationally he is registered with Australian Counselling Association (ACA) as a counsellor at M.A.C.A. Level 4, and Hong Kong Professional Counselling Association (HKPCA) as a Certified Counsellor and Associate Fellow. 

 

In the areas of careers, Dr Tang received numerous professional certifications including Educational and Vocational Guidance Practitioner (EVGP) by International Association for Educational and Vocational Guidance (IAEVG), Certified Leading Professional by Career Industry Council of Australia (CICA), Global Career Development Facilitator Instructor (GCDF-I) by Center for Credentialing and Education (CCE), and Facilitating Career Development Instructor (FCD-I) by National Career Development Association (NCDA).  He also holds professional memberships of American Counselling Association, National Career Development Association, and National Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services.

 

Dr Tang is certified practitioners of Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), Strong Interest Inventory (SII), Career Leader, and Workplace Big Five Profile.

 

As a lifelong learner, he has earned over a 100 university credits in the areas of Positive Psychology, Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Couple and Family Counselling, Grief and Bereavement Counselling, and Gerontology.

 

He was previously invited to speak in conferences/seminars such as the MOE ECG Seminar, the MBTI Education Conference, etc. Dr Tang appeared on TVs many times to talk about ECG and SkillsFuture. During term breaks, he was often invited to conduct workshops and training for educators, counsellors and coaches on-site in universities and schools.

 

Dr Tang has a strong passion in developing and nurturing young people.
